CUTTING LOOSE

Hi! My name is Maarten Molenaar and I’m a professional windsurfer and filmmaker. With this GoFundMe campaign I would like to ask for your support for my next creative project. Half a year ago I officially closed the toughest chapter of my life: defeating cancer. I did this by challenging myself, making a documentary about it and sharing it with the whole wide world. It was all over, or so I thought at least. Shortly after the premiere and returning to the peak of my sports career I got confronted with the return of my disease. One of the first things my oncologist said was that “you can at least start making a sequel to your documentary now”. I loved that and he obviously knows me well. This was one of the first things on my mind as well. Once again I want to try and turn something terrible into something positive and inspiring – and I need your help! Cue my latest film project: CUTTING LOOSE.

CUTTING LOOSE is a film that will follow me through this health and sports setback. You will see me undergo a massive surgery as I deal with losing trust in my body again and get confronted with the reality that I so desperately tried to leave behind me. As always, there is one dream that keeps me going through it all. Expect some abstract, dreamy and awe-inspiring windsurfing action to unfold inside my head as I lay motionless on the operation table.

The film will be produced in collaboration with Floris Tils. After his incredible work on “PASKO – The Magic Move”, I can’t think of anyone better to accompany me on this journey. Floris already spent a day shooting with me in the hospital as I underwent the operation, and we’ve been exploding with ideas for the follow-up filming ever since.

By supporting this GoFundMe campaign you will help us cover the costs of shooting for the film, post-production and distribution. Most of all, you will support some incredible creatives hoping to inspire the world with their windsurfing stories.

Our previous film “PASKO – The Magic Move” premiered in December 2023 and has been screened in countless countries since. After a limited 3-day online release that attracted 5000 people, the film recently got accepted to multiple film festivals.
